Sedimentary rocks crop out in the area, where layered and massive limestone, marl and clay pertaining to the Umbria-Marche stratigraphic sequence (Lias-Eocene), are overlaid by lake deposits (lower Pliocene-Quaternary) and by fluvial deposits of Recent age.
