In this study, significant (according with the rules given in Fig. 2) TIR anomalies identified using the RST approach (fully described in Tramutoli et al. , 2005) have been considered for their possible space-time correlation with earthquakes (with Ml>4) occurrence within pre- selected space-time windows. The used rules for success/failure evaluation were substantially the same accepted for the planned experimentation at CSEP (USC, http://www.cseptesting . org/). A false positive rate of 25% (even less in selected area) and a missing rate of 33% (considering that the continuity of the observation is prevented by the presence of clouds) seems a more than encouraging result to be confirmed by studies (in part already started) on longer period of time and different geographic areas.
