24 GNGTS 2016 S essione A matrice of the major Apenninic faults in the area. This low strain rate regime is consistent with the lack of historical earthquakes in the Amatrice area, as implied by the absence of individual seismogenic sources in the DISS 3.2.0 Catalogue of INGV. Fig. 2 shows as an example the time series of the daily coordinates of the station AMAT one month before and one month after the event: the continuous line with a break at the date 24.08.2016 represents the mean before and after the event and helps in visualizing the coseismic displacement of this site. The scattered points represent describe the residuals relative to the continuous line. They help in assessing the Fig. 1 – Strain rate map of central Italy, showing the horizontal velocities (ETRF2000 frame) of permanent GNSS sites in green and the eigenvectors of the implied 2D strain rate tensor interpolated at the center of selected Individual Seismogenic Sources of the DISS 3.2.0 Catalogue. Fig. 2 – Time series of daily coordinates of the AMAT (Amatrice) GNSS site showing the coseismic offset at day 24.08.2016. A continuous line indicates the average position before and after the event. The data points give the residuals of the coordinates after removal of the step function.
