GNGTS 2018 S essione 1.1 29 • Requirement on the released energy: the change in total stress in a neighborhood of the hypocenter of an earthquake is not smaller than the stress drop. • Requirement on the trigger stress: the total horizontal stress should be comparable to the Andersonian minimum horizontal stress to activate a fault of given dip and coefficient of static friction. • Requirement on geometry: the eigenvectors of the total stress at the hypocenter should be aligned to the eigenvectors of the moment tensor both before and after an event.
