Episodic aseismic slip events are earthquake-like events which, releasing energy over a period of hours to months, have recently been detected at a variety of tectonic and volcanic environments. These aseismic events have been termed as slow slip events (SSEs hereinafter) because detected by continuous geodetic measurements. The SSEs are becoming increasingly recognized as important, due to their influence on local and regional seismicity.
