GNGTS 2019 - Atti del 38° Convegno Nazionale

580 GNGTS 2019 S essione 3.1 The Fucino basin is one the highest seismic risk area of Central Apennines. On January 13 1915, a M w =7.0 earthquake struck this area, causing 30,000 causalities within a large area surrounding the basin. The basin is bordered by clear gravimetric MDA lineaments correlated with well-known faults (Galli et al. , 2016 and references therein). The area is characterized by scarce instrumental seismicity with low magnitude (Fig. 2). Moreover, we investigated the area of Sulmona basin which is the southwards extension of the eastern system of central Apennines developing from Mt. Vettore, Mt. Gorzano and Mt. Gran Sasso. In historical times, the faults of the most external extensional alignment, defined as silent and considered as probable seismic gaps (Galadini and Galli, 2000), activated during the 2016 Amatrice–Visso–Norcia seismic sequence. Further to the southeast, two relatively large earthquakes occurred on the eastern flank of the Mt. Maiella on 3 November 1706 (M w =6.6) and on 26 September 1933 (M w =5.7). According to Lavecchia et al. (2010), these earthquakes have both been caused by E-verging reverse faulting underneath Mt. Maiella. Our multi-parametric analysis highlights a strong correlation between MDA maxima and Mt. Morrone normal fault (Gori et al. ,2014; Galli et al. ,2015) bordering the western side of Mt. Maiella and the eastern side of the Sulmona basin. The area is characterized by poor and low magnitude instrumental seismicity (Fig. 2).
