GNGTS 2021 - Atti del 39° Convegno Nazionale
247 GNGTS 2021 S essione 2.2 by a M L between 1.5 and 2.9. The recorded waveform of the lowest energetic seismic event (ML = 1.5) is shown in Fig. 1. This earthquake occurred in Central Italy on 1 st May 2021 at 23:35:02 (UTC); its epicenter is located near Bastia town. The distance between the epicenter and the MEMS sensor which recorded it is equal to 2 km. Moreover, the strong motion parameters (Peak Ground Accelerations and Spectral Accelerations) inferred from the accelerogram recorded by MEMS sensors were compared with the ones inferred from high quality accelerometers (belonging to the National Accelerometric Network in Italy, RAN). We find that these parameters are in good agreement. An example of the comparison is shown in Fig. 2. In the next future these low-cost sensors could integrate the existing seismic network in order to improve the seismic monitoring and the local seismic site response. Due to their low-cost and small size MEMS sensors can be easily installed. Thus, they could be used to build dense seismic networks. We note that these inexpensive accelerometers cannot substitute the broad-band and high-quality seismic stations and cannot be adopted for seismological purposes such as seismic location, moment tensor estimations and so on.
