GNGTS 2021 S essione 2.2 272 A VULNERABILITY MODEL FOR A MASONRY BUILDING STOCK IN THE HISTORICAL CENTRE OF LATRONICO (POTENZA, ITALY) A. Formisano 1 , N. Chieffo 2 1 Department of Structures for Engineering and Architecture, School of Polytechnic and Basic Sciences, University of Naples “Federico II”, Naples, Italy 2 Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, Politehnica University of Timişoara, Timișoara, Romania Abstract The current research work aims at illustrating a refined vulnerability model for the aggregate masonry buildings located in the historical centre of Latronico, a municipality in the Basilicata Region of Italy. Structural and typological characterization of the buildings sample placed in the investigated urban sector has been done according to the CARTIS form implemented in the Italian ReLUIS research project. Consequently, the evaluation of the physical vulnerability of clustered buildings examined has been performed according to the appropriate assessment form conceived for masonry aggregate to point out their propensity to seismic damage. A deterministic damage scenario has been developed considering the hazard disaggregation map of the case study area by adopting three different seismic events with variable magnitude, Mw, and epicentral distances, R, combined through a proper seismic intensity prediction equation (IPE). Furthermore, fragility curves have been analytically derived based on the likelihood estimation method (MLE) applied to the selected ground motion intensity measure, providing a global overview of the assets exposed at risk. Finally, the achieved results have been appropriately compared with the same typological fragility functions proposed in the literature, highlighting the main differences concerning the expected damage. Introduction The large-scale seismic risk evaluation is a useful procedure for assessing the susceptibility of a sample of buildings to overcome a seismic event of an assigned intensity in a given period. The knowledge of vulnerability (V), exposure (E) and hazard (H) is of crucial importance for the mitigation of the seismic risk and protection of historical buildings, which are generally the weakest part of urbanised areas. Generally, in an urban context, the identification of the most vulnerable buildings is not a simple task due to their structural heterogeneity and complexity (Chieffo and Formisano, 2020). The study presents an accurate typological classification of the historical buildings of a South Italy city centre to find the expected damage scenarios based on appropriate seismic source models. The typological fragility curves are obtained and compared with a set of literature curves to have a global overview on the seismic performance level of the investigated area. Vulnerability assessment of the study area The typological and structural characterization is a systematic methodology able to improve or implement the inventory of the typological distributions of classes of buildings at a municipal or sub-municipal scale. For the implementation of this procedure, the CARTIS form was adopted to detect the types of ordinary buildings characterized by typological and structural homogeneity (Zuccaro et al., 2021). Focusing on the case study area, the municipality of Latronico consists of four urbanized areas: the main village and three other urban centres (Calda, Agromonte Mileo and Agromonte Magnano) located from 3 km to 15 km away from Latronico.
