77 GNGTS 2021 S essione 1.1 sediment remobilization both at the lake margins and close to its depocenter. Several hints for sediment reworking by high-energy processes are present, such as coarser grain sizes, relatively large wood fragments, broken gastropods and ostracod remains, as well as displaced macro- phyte-derived carbonate fragments. Two resedimented beds were identified that might represent lacustrine seismo-turbidite de- posits recording two events that have occurred some months apart. In our interpretation, the two sandy layers, topped by detrital carbonate grains, are related to the May 6 and September 15 major earthquakes during the Friuli seismic sequence. The observation of larger thickness of the uppermost Ca-rich layer combined with radiometric dating suggests a more intense sediment input during the most recent seismo-turbidite, in agreement with seismological data suggesting that the September 15, 1976 earthquake was associated with the strongest ground motion in the lake region (Polonia et al ., 2021b). Our results stress the importance of lacustrine environments as efficient recorders of seismic events.
