GNGTS 2023 - Atti del 41° Convegno Nazionale
Session 3.3 ______ ___ GNGTS 2023 performing a manual smoothing to obtain a depth profile of the horizon without mapping the individual salt structures. On the other hand, considering the individual structures during the interpretation, the obtained base map (Fig. 3b, f) clearly shows the structures aligned along the seismic lines, while the map appears less detailed when moving away from them, due to the interpolation. When using the imprints of several salt diapirs on the bathymetry as the trend surface, the trend obtained in the map (Fig. 3c, g) keeps similar characteristics to the former map (Fig.3b, f), but appears more detailed in the areas where there are no seismic lines. Finally, when we add random points, still considering the bathymetry as trend surface, we find that the image in each part of the final extrapolated map (Fig. 3d, h) is more detailed. The latter map is extrapolated and therefore definitely subject to errors in areas where there are no seismic lines, but it represents a more likely distribution of salt structures than the maps in which only data from seismic lines are considered.
