Session 1.1 GNGTS 2023 Fig. 3: Comparison of the hydrological (TWS), geodetic (GNSS IC1) and seismic ( δ v/v) observations. Dashed green lines represent the 2016 seismic sequence of central Italy. The color scale of the seismic result represents a measure of the stability in the δ v/v result: it corresponds to the number of data (points) available during the regression process for every daily lapse-time sample. Conclusions We show the strong seasonal behaviour in our geodetic and seismic-noise results, and demonstrate the dominant role that variations of groundwater content play in governing temporal crustal deformation and seismic-velocity perturbations in this area. Geodetic observations succeed in isolating the hydrological component of the crustal deformation in the region, identifying the tectonic signals associated with local seismic events. Yet, our seismic results reveal that in order to study the pre- co- and post-seismic effects of the crustal mechanical properties in depth, an accurate estimation of the seismic perturbations due to hydrological changes must be previously accounted for.
