Conclusions The application of VISUS in the pilot projects allowed its progressive improvement and adjustment for multi-hazard purposes. This process took advantage of the feedback during the applications in very different contexts. Ten years of applications evidenced the following aspects: School safety assessments require to consider a multi-hazard, multi-dimensional, holistic and intersectoral approach. Assessing safety and education continuity requires to check not only the structural aspects, but also non-structural and functionality issues as well as the suitability of the location; The implementation of projects has to be based on the capacity building and knowledge transfer at local level;
