In addition, the new catalog unravels distinct E-W oriented clusters in the external zone of the seismic belt, likely related to shear zones developed in the deeper crystalline crust of the Adria plate. As another example to highlight the improvement obtained by template-matching in the recovery of the missed seismicity, we focus on the burst-like seismic sequence that occurred between 2013 and 2014 in the Matese area, initiated with a M W =5 mainshock. We find a small seismic burst followed by a constant-rate, background seismicity during the four years preceding M5 sequence, a period for which the area was known to be seismically silent. Moreover, three small-magnitude (M L ~0) foreshocks have been detected in the 48 hours before the mainshock.
