GNGTS 2023 - Atti del 41° Convegno Nazionale
Session 1.1 GNGTS 2023 some 7 km NE of Carrara and the Mw 4.8 located 3 km NE of Castiglione di Garfagnana (Pezzo et al., 2014) (see figure 1). Fig. 1 Seismicity of the Lunigiana-Garfagnana area in the time interval 1990-2022. Stars point at the following earthquakes: 1841, location as in CPTI15 (red); 1920, as in Eva et. al., 2022 (light blue); 1837 as in this study (green); 2013 as in Pezzo et al., 2014 (orange). Red lines: active faults. Green lines: mapped faults In this work we profit from an updated catalogue of seismic events and the application of the KF technique to the 1920 and the 1837 events to debate about the position, the kinematics and the relationship among those earthquakes in the light of a seismotectonic interpretation. Seismicity In order to better constrain the recent seismicity and to infer their relationship with the historical earthquakes in a seismotectonic framework, we relocated the earthquakes in the Lunigiana-Garfagnana area by applying the double difference relocation technique (HypoDD) by Waldhauser and Ellsworth (2000). HypoDD minimizes the residuals between observed and theoretical travel-time differences for pairs of earthquakes at each station and the spatial offset
