Session 2.3 GNGTS 2024 The data gathered allowed the development of a conceptual typology based on tourists’ expositon to informaton on risk-related behaviors and shows how more than half of the tourists lack any informaton on the behaviors to follow in case of emergency. The typology was used to identfy variables that infuence the probability of being adequately informed by means of logistc regressions. Given the practces within the tourism industry on the island, efectve communicaton strategies for tourists should prioritze providing comprehensive informaton within the inital 24 hours of their arrival. Moreover, given the high percentage of tourists visitng the island for a few hours and within specifc tme slots, we encourage the authorites to provide this informaton before they land. Communicaton strategies to achieve adequate awareness levels rely on residents’ and industry operators’ acceptance of new roles and on the integraton of their actons with opportunites provided by communicaton technologies, to expand the reach and ensure the sustainability of a contnuous act of communicaton.
