Developed by the Terremot Department of the Isttuto Nazionale di Geofsica e Vulcanologia (INGV), this App ofers a user-friendly interface combined with powerful features to stay informed about seismic events and earthquake research and monitoring actvites. Since March 10, 2011 (one day before the 2011 Tohoku earthquake), the INGVterremot App for iOS has been distributed in the App Store. It was the frst seismological App released by a scientfc insttuton. The goal was to provide fast communicaton about seismic informaton tailored to users with mobile devices, an audience that was beginning to be dominant. This frst version of the App showed data on the most recent earthquakes on Italian territory and the strongest events in the rest of the world. In additon through the "Search" secton it allowed the visualisaton of Italian seismicity from 2005 onward. Already from the frst version, special atenton was also paid to scientfc informaton about earthquakes by directly linking to the contents, pages and artcles, of the blog-magazine INGVterremot.com. This included educatonal and popular content to improve users' understanding of seismic actvity, explanatons of the science behind earthquakes, how to prepare for and behave in case of an earthquake event. This educatonal component made the app useful not only during emergencies but also as a learning resource. When the App was frst released, the smartphone and tablet app market was in its infancy, at least in Italy. Therefore, because of the novelty and efectveness of a product released by a well-known scientfc insttuton, during the earthquake crises from March 2011 to July 2013 the INGVterremot App was repeatedly ranked in the top 10 positons among the most downloaded Apps in the Apple Store (Italy). Over the years this App has been constantly updated (with 3 major releases) both due to the evoluton of the technological platorms in which it operates and due to changes in the INGV seismicity informaton service of which they are an integral part. In 2011, the main innovaton was the ability to consult the entre INGV Italian seismic catalogue since 2005 by downloading it directly to the device during installaton to allow the App to work without a data connecton (e.g., in remote areas or during an earthquake emergency). The improvement of mobile data coverage in Italy and the creaton of APIs to programmatcally access the INGV earthquake database allowed in
